Blog entry
August 2020
The outside world is very strange and it's not so dependable right now. Routines have been obliterated, and the ordinary has been lost. In our city of Chicago, each day contains unwelcome surprises.
The backyard world of the garden is true and dependable. There are always changes, mostly gradual and sensible. Every year the garden is a little different, but always a delight.
These Japanese morning glories have just begun blooming. Since the days have been so hot here, the flowers don't last very long. They sort of melt in the hot morning sunshine.
September morning glories
These morning glories began blooming in earnest a few weeks ago. They always take a long time to get started, but are truly worth the wait!
Little changes
Every instantt here are a thousand tiny changes in the garden, the sky and the world.
It's a gift to be able to notice a few of them. These morning glory vines have climbed up to the back porch window. I love to see these first, even before I step outside.
Brugmansia flower buds look a bit like baby bananas
Very brief rainbow.
August 28
The morning glories are really getting good. I planted a lot of different types this year. I don't remember all of their names - I wrote them down somewhere. I'm pretty sure this dusty pink one is "Chocolate Silk".
the blue speckled one is smaller, but I love the starry points. I also love the color of the larger blue one, but the slash in the side makes these seem sort of incomplete.
This type is very tough - the first to start blooming and each morning new blooms appear on these vines.
Middle of August
The mornings have been hazy, hot and humid. The air seems yellow.
Everything in the garden is growing and changing very fast.
I love the twisted curve of these morning glories.
Their leaves are beautiful too.
The robins and cardinals love the grapes!
