Hemp is  oine of my favorite fibers to spin and dye. Of course it doesn;t drink up color like silk or wool, but I love the gentle shades of natural dyes on the yarn.

I don't work in a very scientific or mathematical manner, so every skein is different. Some are more firmly spun.

Some skeins are soft and loose.

It's a great fiber for hot weather spinning because it's easier for me to spin hemp a little wet. I place a bowl of water on the table beside me and dip my fingers into it every minute or two to keep the yarn damp as I spin. I'm pretty messy, and there are plenty of drips and splashes and even with a towel spread across my lap, my clothes always seem to get wet.during this process. This doesn't feel too great in winter, especially in a drafty old house!

Single ply hemp yarn  I think of this shade as "tender blue".
