Indigo Dyed Hand Quilted Log Cabin Quilt

This quilt was pieced from beautiful cotton fabrics hand dyed by me with natural indigo.
I spent countless happy hours working with my indigo pot to obtain the lovely blue shades for this project.
The indigo dyed fabrics in this quilt are strong, soft, and of excellent quality.
Some of these are vintage cottons, embossed with delicate floral or geometric patterns.
This adds texture and depth to the beautiful shades of indigo blue.

This quilt measures approximately 62" x 74".

The design is an off-center variation of the log cabin pattern. This creates an illusion of light indigo blue circles and dark indigo diamond shapes. In the center of each small block is a contrasting square of cream, rust and green floral cotton fabric.
I hand quilted a garden scene into this quilt.
Included are morning glories, poppies, day-lilies, snowflakes, sunflowers, daisies, ivy, dogwood leaves and spiderwebs.
The hand quilting took over a year to complete, as there were so many wonderful flowers and details to include.
It's been a delight to stitch some of my favorite garden friends into these beautiful indigo blue fabrics.

I used two layers of natural cotton batting for a comfortable weight and drape.
The back of this quilt is made from solid dark blue cotton.

*Please note that my quilts are not "factory-uniform".
*There are imprecise seams and stitches.
*This quilt was made entirely by me with natural indigo in my dye pots, my trusty sewing machine, hand stitching and much love!

Although the natural color is fast, I recommend washing in cool water with mild soap on the gentle cycle.
This will preserve the luster of the hand dyed blues as well as the hand stitching.
Line dry or tumble dry with low heat.

This quilt has been a joy to create!
